Pantoums

Our period 5 class recently experimented with writing pantoum poems. Everyone's best efforts are published here. After reading these examples, you should be able to derive the rules of writing a pantoum. We invite you to post your own composition here as a comment.

Falling Out of Love
Anna Lepry

Anything but effortless
Feelings start to fade
Nothing’s there
Trying to believe

Feelings start to fade
Sweet turns to sour
Trying to believe
But nothing will work

Sweet turns to Sour
Asking why
But nothing will work
Hearts beating independently

Good times turn to bad
Asking why
Hearts beating independently
Hold my breath

Cliffs
By Chris Trautman

The snowboarders felt
the cliff at their feet
the intense thoughts
avalanche warnings.

The cliff at their feet
every nerve rushing
avalanche warnings
so much powder.

Every nerve rushing
rocks at he bottom
so much powder
the succcess of landing.

The snowboarders felt
rocks at the bottom
the success of landing
finally riding safely.

The Joy of Skiing
Cole Crawford

The skiers were there
At the giant cliff
Pondering the jump
Checking the landing

At the giant cliff
The men were waiting
Pondering the jump
The skill it would take

The men were waiting
With their skies in hand
The skill it would take
To land the steep cliff

The skies were there
Pondering the jump
The skill it would take
To land the steep cliff

I walked down to Hungry Howies.
I had a slice of pizza.
The grease ran off the cheese.
The crust was crispy.

I had a slice of pizza.
I could smell the pepperoni.
It’s heaven on earth!
The gold crust was crispy.

I could smell the pepperoni.
The sauce oozing out.
The gold crust was crispy.
How could this slice taste so good!?

I walked down to Hungry Howies.
The sauce oozing out.
How could this slice taste so good!?
The grease ran off the cheese.

Tender Heart
Christina Eilert

Wrapped in the cold
Snow all alone
White, pure, tender,
bleeding, warmth gone

Snow all alone
It just can't be
Bleeding warmth gone
My broken heart

It just can't be
Another new end
My broken heart
How can it be?

Nothing remains now
White, pure, tender,
Not you, it's me
Wrapped in the cold.

I'm proud to be a hillbilly
Brett Von Eye

I'm proud to be a hillbilly
I shoot animals in the day
and cook them at night
dead animals on the walls

I shoot animals in the morning
deers, ducks, and pheasants
dead animals on the walls
so good to eat

deer, ducks, pheasants
my shotgun in hand
so good to eat
blend in with the trees

I'm proud to be a hillbilly
my shotgun in hand
blend in with the trees
I shhot animals in the day

Summer
Erin O'Brien

Summer is the best
No plans, lots of rest
You feel the heat
Poolside drinks

No plans, lots of rest
Bare feet
Warm, never-ending nights
Sneaking out

Bare feet
Green cut grass
Bikes on the street
Running through sprinklers

A cold glass of lemonade
Green cut grass
Running though sprinklers
Life at its best.

Summer Fun
Josh Thomas

The sand between my feet
Summer has yet begun
Even though I'm beleving
My heart beating non stop

The water at my toes
The sand scunching quietly
As I walk down
I have several views

Sour turns bitter
As summer has yet begun
The colors of the sky
Are as bright as can be

I walk down the pier
Like a lost boy
I have several thoughts
that ponder me.

Death

The day my brother died was sad.
I didn’t know what to day or do,
just sit there and openly weep;
or just stare off into the distance and think.

I didn’t know what to say or do,
my emotions were flaring with anger and sadness!
So I would stare off into the distance and think,
think about how he was gone, like that.

My emotions were flaring in anger and sadness,
all I could do was sit there and openly weep;
and think about how he was gone, like that.
I loved him so much and I miss him like crazy!

All I could do was sit there and openly weep;
I didn’t know what to day or do.
I loved him so much and I miss him like crazy,
cause the day my brother died was sad!

My Escaping Parks

That park, for young but used for old.
When the sun came out, so did we.
We would laugh as we ran through the green grass.
The thorns were absent on our rock like feet.

When the sun came out, so did we.
The homework untouched,we needed time off.
The thorns were absent on our rock like feet.
With one thing worrying, how will I ever leave.

The homework untouched, we needed time off.
To the feild at the park. We cared no more.
We would laugh as we ran through the green grass.
Whatever the game, it was sure to be fun.

The parks for young, but used for old.
To the field at the park. We cared no more.
Whatever the game, it was sure to be fun.
With one thing worrying, how will I leave.

Summer Nights
Brandy Zummo

Summer Nights underneath the streetlights
late night ours running through sprinklers
The times of our lives and we didn't want it to end
the year goes on and summer nights come again

Late Night ours running through sprinklers
oversized sunglasses and dark tanlines
the year goes on and summer nights come again
Street corner lemonade stands

Oversized sunglasses and dark tan lines
summer nights are memories of a lifetime
Street corner lemonade stands
late night baseball games and stadium lights

Summer nights underneath the street lights
summer nights are memories of a lifetime
Late nights baseball games and stadium lights
Late night ours running through sprinklers

Cookie
Kyle Harpster

Tasting good
Always looking different
Some black and White
With sprinkles and chocolate chips

Always looking different
Coming from different locations
All shapes and size may very
Such as pink and white looking like animals

Coming from different locations
From little girls going door to door
Or from the store
Always sneaking from grandmothers cookie jar

From little girls going door to door
To being dunked in your milk
Cookies are always good
Especially when you like them

When I Close My Eyes
Kara Martens

Thinking back on that night,
all I have are regrets.
From the decisions I made.
I see their faces when I close my eyes.

All I have are regrets,
I don’t know how to cope.
I see their faces when I close my eyes.
My wounds may never fully heal.

I don’t know how to cope.
This pain is too deep to bear.
My wounds may never fully heal.
Their laughter burns into my soul.

Thinking back on that night,
I don’t know how to cope.
Their laughter burns into my soul.
Because of the decisions I have made.

THE IGNORANT ONES
-marcus pierce

There are some people,
You just will never like,
Maybe too full of hate,
Maybe not full of love.

You will just never like,
The ignorant ones,
People who just dont care;
People who aren't anywhere.

The ignorant ones,
Are the people who wait,
The people who can't,
The people who just don't,

People just don't care,
For the ignorant ones;
The people who wait,
Maybe too full of hate.

Friends
By: Amy Barczuk

They are always there.
Never leave your side.
Always along for the ride.
Times of bad, with you.

Never leave your side.
Ears are always open.
Times of bad, with you.
Especially when you're blue.

Ears are always open.
Secrets locked away.
Especially when you're blue.
Real ones never stray.

They are always there.
Secrets locked away.
Real ones never stray.
Always along for the ride.

With chicken, beans and rice
excited for lunch to come

full of amazing goodness

Excited for lunch to come
lettuce, cheese and salsa
full of amazing goodness
my mouth drooling for taste
